About Democratic Socialists of America
Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), a 501(c)4 advocacy organization, was founded in 1982 and is the largest socialist organization in the United States. DSA North Star defines ourselves as a caucus within the tradition of DSA and socialism in the US by seeking to democratically empower working people. Like DSA, we emphasize that this empowerment must come through an intersectional vision of socialism that recognizes not only class-based exploitation but also the oppression of people of color, women, the LGBTQIA community, people with disabilities and many other marginalized groups.
We support and seek to implement DSA’s Strategy Document, which presents a plan for prioritizing racial justice within DSA and engaging in electoral work that promotes democratic socialists and progressive candidates who will challenge the corporate oligarchy that muzzles the voices of ordinary people in US politics. We echo the call of Bernie Sanders’s 2016 presidential campaign for a political revolution that will bring greater democracy to working people so that ultimately we the people and not the wealthy few will be able to determine our economic, political and social systems.
